Canadians will be singing the praises of this collaboration for years to come! It turns out Celine Dion's highly anticipated new single, "Ashes," is a joint effort with none other than fellow Canuck star Ryan Reynolds and his Deadpool 2, which hits theatres on May 18. After debuting on Good Morning America, the actor teased the stunning ballad and accompanying video on his Instagram on Thursday (May 3), filled with magical Celine power moments and hilarious Deadpool dance sequences. "Showtime, Mama!" he said in the caption alongside a Canadian flag.
"Over the years I've received some incredible songs and I’ve been involved in some amazing projects," Celine said on Instagram as she shared her latest project. "'Ashes' is one of those songs and ‘Deadpool 2’ is off-the-charts! Take the most insane ride of your life when Deadpool 2 opens on May 18 … you’ll be laughing your “ashes” off! - Céline xx…" The lyrics of the heartfelt number are no laughing matter, however, as it explores the struggle to rebuild one's life after their dreams go up in smoke and try to find beauty in the ashes - a theme that's definitely close to Deapool's heart. Fellow female powerhouses Cher and Dolly Parton are also featured on the Deadpool 2 soundtrack.
In the video, Celine stands on a beautiful stage clad in a dove-grey gown with caped sleeves and sings her heart out. Visuals of the 50-year-old are interspersed with scenes from Deadpool 2, before the titular character joins the superstar on stage and performs a seductive interpretive dance. Finally, Celine sings the last line of "Ashes" sitting on the stage in an emotional finale. And scene. Well, not quite...
"Celine! That was amazing!" yells Ryan as Deadpool from the audience. "That was the most beautiful performance I've ever seen in my life!" After Celine thanks him, the 41-year-old breaks the news that they'll have to record the performance again, and Celine's smile evaporates. "Ok. Why?" she asks. "Well, it's too good. This is Deadpool 2, not Titanic. You're at, like, an 11, we need to get you down to a 5. Five-and-a-half tops. Just phone it in."
"Listen," Celine responds in a final mic-drop moment. "This thing only goes to 11. So beat it Spiderman!" Deadpool is dumbfounded before saying, "God, I should have asked NSYNC."
Ryan has been promoting his latest film in the only way he knows how: with hilarious appearances and social-media posts. Back in March, the father of two gave fans a glimpse of the Deadpool 2 set and the "scariest hallway ever," shortly after it was revealed that Blake Lively's husband had purchased Aviation Gin.
Fans are surely toasting his latest collaboration, especially those who have been anxiously awaiting new tunes from the French-Canadian chanteuse. Last August, after her whirlwind fashion tour of Europe, the Celine announced that she’d be releasing a full English album this fall – her first since 2013’s Loved Me Back To Life. “My next big project for the fall will be recording my new English album. I’m very, very excited. That’s going to be released in 2018, probably during the fall, could be sooner, I hope! I don’t know but I can’t wait,” she revealed at the launch of her new handbag collection in Montreal last summer. And now that we've got a first taste, we can't wait for more!
