Leonardo DiCaprio couldn’t resist whipping out his phone to snap the excited crowds standing outside Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, where the 86th Academy Awards took place. The Oscar-nominee, who lost out to Matthew McConaughey in the Best Actor category, was caught beaming at another camera as he took his own photo of fans.
Benedict Cumberbatch, meanwhile, grabbed the opportunity to photobomb U2 on the red carpet. All eyes were on the Sherlock star as he leaped up behind the music group waving his hands in the air. Benedict repeated the process a couple of times, much to U2’s oblivion, making sure photographers got the best shot.
Once inside the Hollywood theatre, Ellen started a fresh round of photo-taking frenzy. The funnywoman and Oscars host could have won the prize for most-retweeted selfie as she posted a snapshot of herself surrounded by the likes of Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep and other Tinseltown dwellers.
Ellen had the audience in stitches, and nourished, as she handed out boxes of pizzas for stars to chow down on – a hilarious stunt that was captured by the famous faces on camera.
“OSCAR PIZZA! #Oscars,” tweeted an excited Kristen Bell, alongside a photo of her husband Dax Shepard finishing off his slice.
“Yes! @TheEllenShow. There IS gluten-free pizza!!!!#OSCARS #greenroom,” added pregnant Kerry Washington from backstage, next to a photo of herself tucking into her treat.
The photo sensation carried on backstage, where the stunning Lupita Nyong’o was snapped cradling her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. The Mexico City-born star looked flawless on the night in a pale blue, plunging floor-length gown.
Fellow nominee Jennifer Lawrence, who lost out to Lupita in the same category, was caught trying to jokingly wrestle the trophy out of Lupita’s hand. Her clowning around didn’t stop there, as she shared a joke with co-star Matthew in the winners’ room and interrupted him posing for photographers.
The photos carried on well after the ceremony, with stars posting mementos from the after parties. Anna Kendrick couldn’t resist taking a burger, as she captioned her photo, “There was In & Out at the Vanity Fair Party. #Whoops.”
Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck and his team, who were behind the exquisite Governors Ball menu, celebrated their success with a much-deserved toast. “And finally, a team toast! #Oscars,” he wrote next to his end-of-the-night photo.
