Neil Patrick Harris joins the ranks of these 10 past Oscar hosts

Neil Patrick Harris has been selected as the host of the 87th annual Academy Awards, joining the ranks of an elite group of A-listers who have been given the esteemed privilege.

Comedians Chris Rock and Ellen Degeneres and actors Billy Crystal, Hugh Jackman and Alec Baldwin are among the star-studded event's past hosts, and Neil is clearly thrilled to be added to the list.

“It is truly an honour and a thrill to be asked to host this year’s Academy Awards. I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show,” Neil said in an official statement. “To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen Degeneres and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true.”

Neil has previously hosted the Emmys and the Tonys and has won awards at both ceremonies.
