Wedding dress inspiration from the Oscar red carpet

In a sea of colour on Sunday night (Feb. 22), stars like Scarlett Johansson, Rosamund Pike and Jennifer Hudson brought the rainbow to the red carpet – but bride-worthy nudes and white also played a role in the evening’s most talked-about looks.

While we were busy selecting our staff picks for best-dressed attendees, the parade of pretty numbers also offered ample opportunity for brides-to-be to find inspiration for their special day. From frothy nudes to pearly whites, many women were probably picturing their perfect wedding dresses thanks to stars like Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston and Lupita Nyong’o.

Lady Gaga turned heads with her Alaia ball gown

Lady Gaga certainly made a statement with her Alaia gown. The newly engaged singer, who is set to wed actor Taylor Kinney, could have been dropping hints as to what she’ll wear on her big day. The Just Dance hitmaker opted for a shimmering white billowing ball gown – an iconic shape in the world of wedding dresses.

Joining her in the big and beautiful dresses category, Jennifer Lopez took fellow attendees’ breath away when she donned her princess-inspired Elie Saab gown. For brides wishing to steal her style, Elie and fellow Lebanese fashion designer Zuhair Murad are both the epitome of glitter and sparkle.

Also shimmering down the red carpet was Oscar presenter Jennifer Aniston, who flaunted her svelte figure in a beaded strapless Atelier Versace gown. The slinky dress, which featured a thigh-high split, would be suited to the vintage-inspired bride or could be worn as a second reception number.

Another star who channelled old Hollywood glamour was Julianne Moore. The red-haired beauty, who was shortlisted for Actress in a Leading Role, was a vision in white in a custom-made Chanel dress.

The actress looked like a true piece of art with her pearl-embroidered number catching the light as she turned for the cameras. Julianne’s dress would also be perfect for the vintage bride, while its strapless cut echoed a more traditional shape.

Marion Cotillard, who was competing in the same category as Julianne, opted for her beloved Christian Dior. The French starlet turned heads in a full-length gown, which featured a high neckline and shimmery circular pattern.

It was Marion’s train, however, that had fashionistas and brides talking, as the flowing material trailed behind her on the red carpet.

Lupita Nyong’o’s handmade dress was made of 6,000 pearls

Another standout white dress belonged to Lupita Nyong’o. The 12 Years a Slave star pulled out all the stops, wearing a truly show-stopping piece that featured a plunging neckline and cleavage cut-out, that would suit the more risqué bride.

Made of 6,000 pearls, Lupita’s dress fit her body amazingly and despite its weight, the actress glided down the red carpet without effort.

Reese Witherspoon rocked a monochrome off-the-shoulder Tom Ford number

American sweetheart Reese Witherspoon and blonde beauty Gwyneth Paltrow both drew attention to their upper bodies, as Reese rocked a monochrome off-the-shoulder Tom Ford number, while Gwyneth wore a dusky pink one-shouldered gown.
