Banish your blow dryer this summer with this red carpet secret

Battling with my blow dryer is the last thing I want to do when the mercury hits 20 degrees or higher. In order to spend less time under hot tools and hot water, most summers I stock up on dry shampoo (Batiste is my fave, despite its flashy packaging).

This year however I’m taking a different approach inspired by a certain red-carpet queen from the past and two style icons du jour.

1960s glamazon Brigitte Bardot knew what she was doing when she enlisted the help of a thick headband to keep her enviable blond locks far from her face. Worn over her ears or just slightly pushed back, she still looked put together, but with a no fuss, no muss vibe.

It’s a look that still makes a statement in 2014. At last week’s CFDA Awards, Blake Lively pushed back her blonde strands with a nude satiny band. A tousled blowout with major volume at the roots finished off the retro ‘do.

While in Cannes, Marion Cotillard fittingly paid homage to the French film star twice in one day – once with a coco-colored satin band and then later that evening with a band crafted from hair (most likely extensions).

This summer, my second – or third – day hair strategy is to hide my unwashed roots with an extra wide satiny headband, just like these three. To my blow dryer: I’ll see you in September!
