Best gowns from past SAG Awards

Nestled between the Golden Globes and the Oscars, the Screen Actors Guild Awards (or SAG Awards) has evolved into one of the season’s most stylish ceremonies thanks to its serious red-carpet appeal.

With a focus on outstanding performances in both film and television, the prestigious gala firmly shines the spotlight on the actors and actresses who dazzled us in 2014. It’s also the perfect opportunity for some of Hollywood’s biggest stars to showcase their fashion prowess ahead of the Academy Awards.

Just one week after wowing (and winning) at last year's Golden Globes in a red caped Ralph Lauren number, Lupita Nyong’o turned heads at the SAGs in a vibrant turquoise Gucci gown with floral detailing, as she accepted her award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years a Slave. The gorgeous newcomer would go on to score a hat trick at the Oscars, taking home a third accolade while landing on every best-dressed lists in a stunning “Nairobi-blue” Prada gown.

Meanwhile, some of our perennial red-carpet favourites are set to attend this year’s event – like Jennifer Aniston, who scooped up a nomination for her role in Cake. The former Friends star famously cemented her it-girl status in 2003, when she stepped out at the SAG Awards in a slinky, indigo gown with cutouts that left little to the imagination.

We’re sure there will be some fashion surprises, too, especially when it comes to newcomers like The Theory of Everything’s Felicity Jonesand Gone Girl’s Rosamund Pike. The actresses forewent the glimmering gowns of their peers at the Globes, with the former choosing a high-collared, regal teal gown and the latter showing off her post-baby figure in a skin-baring, Grecian-inspired white dress.

Will sequins be out in full force at this year’s SAGs? Is red going to be the season’s hottest hue? Tune in on Sunday, Jan. 25 to find out – and in the meantime, check out some of our favourite looks from past SAG Awards shows.
