Hello! poll shows the Queen still rules as Britain's most popular royal

More than six decades after she ascended the throne, Queen Elizabeth still reigns supreme as the most popular member of the British Royal Family, this according to an exclusive poll conducted by Hello!

People continue to admire Her Majesty's skills on the world stage, her ability to engage with people of all ages and her unwavering sense of duty and dedication to the Commonwealth.

With her upcoming milestone birthday, it really is the Queen's year to celebrate and among the 2,000 people quizzed, more than half said they would be watching the celebrations on TV. A further nine per cent said they would plan their own activities to mark the occasion.

The Queen's birthday will be honoured with a set of events including the much-anticipated Patron's Lunch, dubbed the country's biggest street party accommodating 10,000 guests on The Mall, as well as the traditional Trooping the Colour ceremony.

Prince Harry is credited with boosting the Royal Family's popularity.

While the focus is firmly on Her Majesty this year, many readers, some 36 per cent, said they would like to see the Queen take on fewer royal duties. The monarch carried out an impressive 341 engagements last year.

As a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, those polled think the monarch should allow herself more time to rest and enjoy her family.

Instead, some 46 per cent strongly agree with the view that younger royals including Prince William, Prince Harry and the Duchess of Cambridge should step in for the Queen.

On the question of boosting the Royal Family's popularity, the Queen and her grandson Prince Harry are jointly credited for this achievement, followed by Prince William and then Kate.

Given the results, Her Majesty looks sure to enjoy another happy, glorious and momentous year as she enters her 10th decade.
