Queen Margrethe of Denmark gathers eight grandchildren to celebrate her 76th birthday
Queen Margrethe of Denmark gathered her gaggle of grandchildren to help celebrate her 76th birthday over the weekend, along with her children. The monarch's two sons with Prince Henrik, Frederik and Joachim, were on hand with their stylish wives at the Saturday event, but it was definitely her eight grandchildren who stole the show.
Surrounded by her adorable youngsters on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen, Margrethe gave a warm wave and smile to well-wishers below.
The royal drew attention in her eye-catching, bright blue outfit, but her sweet grandchildren still managed to share the spotlight.

Posing on the balcony, the queen was flanked by her two eldest grandchildren – Prince Nikolai, 16, and 13-year-old Prince Felix, who are Prince Joachim's children from his first marriage to Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg. The former couple still continue to share joint custody of their sons.
Standing next to the queen was ten-year-old Prince Christian, who is second-in-line to the Danish throne after his father Crown Prince Frederik.
Christian's younger siblings Princess Isabella and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, who have just turned five, also supported their grandmother.
Completing the family celebration were Prince Joachim's two children with his second wife Princess Marie – Prince Henrik, six, and adorable four-year-old Princess Athena.
The royals took it in turns to pose on the balcony for family pictures. Prince Frederik and Princess Mary greeted the crowds with their four children, followed by Prince Joachim and Princess Marie with their two children and Joachim's two older sons from his first marriage.
Margrethe also posed with her husband Henrik, who stood one step behind to ensure that all attention was on his wife.
Last year the Danish royals spent a week celebrating Margrethe's milestone 75th birthday. A glittering ball was held in the queen's honour, as well as ceremonial parades around Copenhagen.
Margrethe was joined by fellow European royals for her landmark birthday, including Queen Letizia of Spain, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands and Queen Mathilde of Belgium among others.
