Details on Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex's visit to Saskatchewan revealed

Saskatchewan will be treated to some royal visitors on Jun. 22, when Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, touch down in the province for a two-day stay. Premier Brad Wall shared the exciting news on Friday (Jun. 3) saying, "I am pleased to welcome Their Royal Highnesses to our great province. Saskatchewan continues to have a special relationship with Canada's royal family and it is an honour to again celebrate our longstanding ties with this working visit."

The royal couple have visited Canada many times including a tour of Edmonton in 2001.

The visit will mark Edward's sixth stop in the Prairies and his 38th trip to Canada. Back in 1978, the prince joined his parents the Queen and Prince Philip on their trip to the province before returning for individual visits in 1994, 2003, 2006 and 2014. His wife Sophie will explore the province for the first time.

Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn, will not accompany their parents to Canada.

The royal couple will tour a variety of places in and around Regina before attending the Globe Theatre's 50th anniversary gala. Their children, Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn, will not accompany them on tour.

Sophie last visited Canada in Nov. 2015. While in Toronto, the Queen's daughter-in-law criss-crossed across the city, makings stops at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and the UHN's Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital, of which she is patron.
