Michelle Obama touched down in Spain on Thursday (June 30) for a heartfelt reunion with monarch Queen Letizia. The Madrid visit marked the final stop on FLOTUS's Let Girls Learn tour, during which she's been highlighting the importance of education for young girls in poorer countries. Michelle and Letizia made one seriously fashionable duo, with the former radiating summer in a white ensemble.
The 52-year-old's dress, which she teamed with stylish metallic sandals, fell just below her knees. Meanwhile, 43-year-old Letizia, made a statement in a red Nina Ricci number and completed her look with nude pumps.
Michelle and Letizia toured the gardens of Zarzuela Palace together, posing for a set of gorgeous photographs. The last time Spanish royal Letizia saw US President Obama's wife was in September 2015 at a Washington gala, so they surely had a lot of catching up to do.
After their chat, the two women headed to the Matadero culture centre in the Spanish capital to speak to a group of 600 young women about education around the world.
Talking first, Michelle explained: "Every one of us has the power and obligation to be a champion for girls around the world. In countries like Spain and the United States, men and women are often held to very different standards."
Letizia took to the stage after Michelle, and started her speech by paying tribute to the victims of the horrific terror attack at an Istanbul airport on Tuesday evening, which killed at least 42 people.
She said: "I think today, we are all clear that the education of girls transforms, protects and is productive." Letizia added that we need to nurture "the talent, energy and intelligence of millions of girls around the world."
Michelle, accompanied by daughters Sasha and Malia, started her educational trip in Africa, stopping in Liberia and Marrakech.
