The Princess first met her husband-to-be when she was still a student, reading politics, art history and English literature at Newcastle University. Eugenie, who had taken a gap year, enrolled in September 2009.
It was during one of her university holidays that she was introduced by mutual friends to Jack, who is three years older. Romance blossomed on the slopes of Verbier, the plush ski resort in Switzerland where Eugenie's parents Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew still own a multi-million dollar chalet.

Jack may not hail from aristocracy, but his upbringing was not dissimilar to his royal girlfriend. The nightclub manager was sent to the £12,000-a-year Stowe boarding school in Buckinghamshire by his parents Nicola and George, an accountant and company director. Eugenie, meanwhile, boarded at Marlborough College in Wiltshire for five years.

While Eugenie was studying at university, her boyfriend Jack was working in London. Despite his family's background in finance, Jack chose to pursue a different career path and with the blessing of his parents, started out in the hospitality trade.
He worked in pubs and bars, including the Devonshire Terrace in the City, where he was employed as a meeter and greeter and occasionally waited on tables.

While Eugenie managed to maintain a relatively low-key profile at Newcastle University, when the Princess was down in London she and Jack caught the attention of royal watchers.
One of their first high-profile appearances was in March 2011, when Eugenie and Jack were spotted leaving the now-closed Chelsea nightclub Public, owned by Prince Harry's friend Guy Pelly. Eugenie was on a university holiday and used her weeks off to spend time with Jack.

That same year Eugenie made the decision to move to New York, where she worked for a couple of years. The Princess secured a job at online auction house Paddle8 as a benefit auctions manager.
Despite the 3,000-mile distance, Eugenie and Jack's relationship stayed strong and the couple kept in regular touch over Skype.

Jack, meanwhile, was carving a name for himself in the hospitality industry and furthering his career as a nightclub manager. He is the Brand Ambassador of Casamigos tequila, which was owned by George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman and recently sold to Diageo for $1billion.
Jack and Eugenie are regularly spotted making the most of London's lively nightlife, and have been seen leaving Tonteria on Sloane Square (pictured), Groucho and Loulou's private members club.

The groom-to-be gets on splendidly well with Eugenie's parents, and is often spotted going out for dinner with his girlfriend and her mum the Duchess of York. Sources have said that Prince Andrew and Sarah are "very fond" of the "lovely chap" who is set to marry their younger daughter.

Jack also has a healthy relationship with his future father-in-law Prince Andrew. In January 2015, he was invited to holiday with the Prince and Eugenie in Verbier, the same ski resort where their love story began.
