Kate steals the show in Alexander McQueen at the BAFTAs

Some of Hollywood's brightest stars braved the cold on Sunday night to attend the 2017 BAFTA awards – but it was the Duchess of Cambridgewho stole the show.

The glamorous royal and her husband Prince William were the guests of honour at the London film ceremony, and made quite an entrance as they arrived at the Royal Albert Hall. Kate, 35, looked breath-taking as she alighted from their car to walk the red carpet. She was dressed in a bespoke strapless black Alexander McQueen gown embellished with white flowers, and wore her hair swept back in a chignon to highlight her dazzling diamond drop earrings.

Kate debuted a new Alexander McQueen gown.

Husband William, dapper in a black tuxedo, proudly escorted his wife inside the historic concert hall as they prepared for a night celebrating the best of the silver screen. The Prince has served as president of BAFTA since 2010, and will present the BAFTA Fellowship, the academy's lifetime achievement award, to veteran US comic Mel Brooks.

The royal couple are certainly in good company at this year's ceremony. Nominees attending the 2017 BAFTAs include La La Land's Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling,Amy Adams, for Arrival, and Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams for Manchester By The Sea. Hacksaw Ridge actor Andrew Garfield is also there, alongside Hugh Grant and Meryl Streep, stars of Florence Foster Jenkins, Jackie's Natalie Portman and Fences actress Viola Davis.

Kate styled her hair in a chic up-do.

But it seems even A-listers can get a little star-struck. According to reports, guests and nominees have been reminded of the importance of royal protocol and told not to ask William or Kate for a selfie. "Many of the A-listers are used to being the biggest deal in the room, but royalty is altogether different," a source close to the awards told Metro. "They're not celebrities in the same way, and bosses are taking no chances." A spokesperson for BAFTA said: "As stated in our guidelines for guests, we ask them to behave respectfully when attending the awards."
