Ricky Gervais claims Prince William and Prince Harry have an 'unbelievable' entourage. The future King and his younger brother recently attended one of the comedian's shows, with no fewer than seven personal protection officers.
Ricky joked about the royal A-team during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. When chat show host Graham asked about celebrities getting free tickets to his performances, Ricky joked: "At one of the last shows I did Madonna, Paul McCartney and Princes William and Harry were on the guest list. And, once you add a Prince to the guest list you also get seven people with guns get in for free – it's unbelievable!"
Ricky, 55, was on the show to talk about his upcoming stand-up tour. It's been seven years since his last, and Ricky explained: "It just gets pushed back – I have been busy with other things like Derek and The Muppets so I have now put a year aside for the tour." He added that his material was less practised, and more "confessional", saying: "It's more honest than before – I just walk out and start talking. It's organic and confessional. You could spend a year writing it but it would be worthless."
Ricky added: "I can change it every night – it's like natural selection and evolution with the audience picking the best hour. If they laugh it stays, if they don't it goes. After fifty gigs it works." No doubt the Reading-born writer will have his audience in stitches. The Extras star is one of the nation's most popular comedians; he has won seven BAFTA Awards, five British Comedy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards and two Emmy Awards in his career, for acting and comedy.
Ricky has also hosted the Golden Globes for four consecutive years, although at 2017's ceremony he was replaced by Jimmy Fallon. When he announced he would be returning to stand-up and touring after a long hiatus, Ricky wrote on his blog: "Finally, I'm going to do some stand-up. The first in about six years if you don't count hosting the Golden Globes."
