Prince George arrives for his first day of school with Prince William

With his knapsack in tow, Prince George arrived hand-in-hand with his dad Prince William for his first day of school at Thomas's Battersea school on Thursday (Sept 7). Little George looked a little nervous as he was greeted by the Head of Lower School Helen Haslem before heading inside to meet his classmates.

George arrived to his first day of school with his dad by his side.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who announced her third pregnancy on Monday (Sept 4), missed this morning's school run due to illness. The palace revealed that the mother of two is suffering from the same severe morning sickness she experienced while pregnant with both George and Princess Charlotte.

The four-year-old looked a little nervous as he headed into school.

George looked adorably dapper in his blue and red school uniform and matching backpack. It was also recently confirmed by the palace that the youngster will be known as George Cambridge in roll call.

Thursday's milestone is reminiscent of the young royal's first day of preschool back in January 2016. The future king previously attended Westacre Montessori near his family's home in Norfolk. His hands-on parents started researching city schools after making the decision to move their family back to London full-time.

Based on findings by Good Schools Guide – an independent source of information on education – it appears that the Duke and Duchess picked the perfect school for their young son. The school is described as "a big, busy, slightly chaotic school for cosmopolitan parents" with "plenty of opportunities for pupils to excel."

Prince George is enrolled in Thomas's Battersea in South London.

Earlier this year, the couple expressed their joy over selecting Thomas's Battersea in a statement released by the palace. It read: "Their Royal Highnesses are delighted to have found a school where they are confident George will have a happy and successful start to his education."

Following news of George's enrolment, the schools headmaster Ben Thomas said: "We are honoured and delighted that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen Thomas's Battersea for Prince George. We greatly look forward to welcoming him and all of our new pupils to the school in September."

The school currently has 544 day co-ed students, aged between four and 13, and tuition rings in at approximately $28,101 (£17,604) per year.
