When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released their official engagement photos, there was a global gasp of excitement. The stunning portraits were breathtaking, the perfect blend of candid and posed, and the modern-day royal couple owe them to celebrity and fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski. And now, the shutterbug has been secured to snap the couple's official wedding portraits, too.
The engagement shots, which were taken at Frogmore House, Windsor, showed the loved-up couple holding hands in one photo, while another has Harry and his fiancée smiling and embracing as their heads touch. "It was one of the easiest, most joyful jobs because they were so deliciously in love," Alexi told E!, adding that the couple would "smile and giggle" when they glanced at each other.
New-York based photographer Alexi said at the time of the engagement shoot: "It was an incredible honour to be asked to document this wonderful event, but also a great privilege to be invited to share and be a witness to this young couple's love for one another." He added: "I cannot help but smile when I look at the photos that we took of them, such was their happiness together."
After the pictures were unveiled, Alexi took to social media share his delight over his latest project. "A huge thank you to His Royal Highness Prince Harry and Ms Markle, for allowing me to take their official engagement portraits," he wrote. "Not only was it an incredible honour, but also an immense privilege to be invited to share and be a witness to this young couple’s love for each other. I cannot help but smile when I look at the photos that we took. @Kensingtonroyal".
But what does everyone know about Alexi? The professional was born in England to a Peruvian/English mother and a Polish/French father. At the age of eight, he moved to Botswana with his mother and stepfather, who gave him his first camera at the age of 11. According to his website, Alexi's interest in photography developed whilst traveling in Peru during a gap year at college. After meeting legendary fashion photographer Mario Testino - who took Prince William and Kate's engagement photos - Alexi spent four years as his assistant in Paris before he embarked on a career which saw him shoot for publications such as Harpers Bazaar UK, Vogue’s titles across North America, Europe and Asia, GQ USA and Allure.
Alexi is no stranger to the limelight, he has shot cover stars such as Beyoncé, Charlize Theron, Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts. And It seems Alexi is a fitting choice for Harry and Meghan as he descends from Polish royalty! He has also written a book called Princely Advice for a Happy Life, which was created for his two young sons, on the "virtues of behaving in a manner befitting a Prince in the 21st Century".
