Dame Helen Mirren dished about her royal run-ins during a visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss her upcoming film, The Leisure Seeker. And though she's no stranger to playing Queen Elizabeth and has rubbed shoulders with the groom-to-be, the actress admitted that she probably won't be invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding. Helen did, however, share the characteristics she founds most striking in Harry and his brother Prince William.
“I don’t know them exactly," she said. "I was at an awards thing or something, and [Prince] William was presenting and he knew that I was in the room and he said, ‘I’ve got to be really, really good because my granny is in the house.' So, he kind of knew who I was.”
The British actress then continued: “I’ve met Harry. I’ve met the queen, briefly. And I’ve met Prince Harry and William. They’re both unbelievably charming, very straightforward, very charming, and a great credit to their father, [Prince Charles].”
She also tipped her hat to The Crown. "I think it's incredibly accurate and I think Claire Foy was brilliant," she said of the Netflix historical drama. "I sent her an email congratulating her." And while the actresses on the series are changing as the Queen moves ahead in years, Dame Helen confirmed that she won't be taking part in the show - age-appropriate or not.
This led to the actress sharing a laugh with Ellen when the talk show host declared her 72 years old. "I think I'm 73," the star said. When Ellen and a producer confirmed the math based on her birth year, Helen exclaimed, "I'm 72? This is fantastic!"
