Joining a new family can be rocky, but it seems that Meghan Markle has had a smooth transition. Prince Harry's fiancée and her future sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, looked close and comfortable with one another as they took the stage alongside their partners at the Royal Foundation Forum in central London on Feb. 28. The event, which highlighted the philosophy and work of the young royals' organization, saw the 'fab four' together publicly for the first time since Christmas Day church services in 2017 - and fans relished an opportunity to see how Prince William's wife gets along with the family's newest member.
Meghan and Kate appeared particularly close during their first engagement together, sharing friendly laughs and supporting each other’s statements throughout. From the perspective of their charity work, the 36-year-olds are tackling women's issues from their own very personal sides. Meghan, who started fighting for gender equality at the age of 11 when she saw a sexist commercial on TV, said she'll "hit the ground running" for the cause of women's rights.
“I hear a lot of people speaking about girls’ empowerment and women’s empowerment — you will hear people saying they are helping women find their voices,” she said. “I fundamentally disagree with that because women don’t need to find their voices, they need to be empowered to use it and people need to be urged to listen."
Kate, who is expecting her third child, has worked diligently to help mothers and their mental health. “Personally, becoming a mother has been such a rewarding and wonderful experience,” she said last year in a speech. “However, at times it has also been a huge challenge. Even for me who has support at home that most mothers do not.”
With their values aligned, it’s no surprise that Meghan and Kate get along swimmingly. Back when the nearly newlyweds did their first televised interview, Harry shared the story of how his sister-in-law and fiancée first met, “William was longing to meet her and so was Catherine. So, you know, being our neighbours we managed to get that in a couple of – well, quite a few times now and Catherine has been absolutely… amazing as has William."
Not only did the duo seem to be fast friends in their interactions, but they also looked the part. Perfectly coordinated in shades of blue, pregnant Kate turned to her favourite maternity brand, Seraphine, for a cornflower-hued number that showed off her blossoming baby bump, while Meghan looked sleek and sophisticated in a navy trench dress by Canadian-bred designer Jason Wu.
