Meghan Markle's bachelorette party today could be missing one key royal

Meghan Markle is reportedly kicking off her royal wedding celebrations today (Mar. 4) by stealing away to a luxury spa resort with friends, though one key royal won't be in attendance. According to The Mirror, the bride-to-be is with friends enjoying some serious pampering but her future sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge, who is pregnant with her third child, didn't join the former Suits actress. Meghan's mother, 61-year-old Doria Ragland, is also missing out on the festivities from Los Angeles.

Despite her absence, Kate and Meghan seemed close and comfortable with each other when they stepped out for their first joint engagement at the Royal Foundation Forum. Both clad in blue dresses, the pair entered the event on Feb. 28 looking friendly and went on to laugh together and support one another's statements on stage.

Meghan gave fans some insight into her "hen do," as bachelorette parties are called across the pond, while on a walkabout in Edinburgh. Though further details remain tightly guarded, the 36-year-old told well-wishers who inquired that she was sure her celebration would "fun." Once Meghan and her girlfriends return from the spa, she'll be preparing for the next pre-wedding event: her baptism. In order to join the Royal Family, the former actress - who was raised Protestant - will show her respect to the Queen by converting to the Church of England. With her mother Doria and father Thomas Markle in attendance, The Sunday Times reports that Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, will perform the rite at Kensington Palace.

Meghan and Prince Harry took the world by storm last November when they announced their engagement after a whirlwind year-and-a-half of dating. Their big day will take place in Windsor at St George's Chapel on May 19, and they recently opened the royal wedding up to members of the public! In addition to community members from Windsor, 1,200 members of the public will attend as well as 100 pupils from local schools, 200 colleagues from charities and 530 members of the Royal Households and Crown Estate. Mel B of the Spice Girls also alluded to the possibility of the girl group reuniting at the wedding!
