Hopped off a plane at Chicago O’Hare! Meghan Markle has taken a quick trip across the pond to the United States just weeks before she and Prince Harry exchange vows at Windsor. The royal-to-be was spotted looking incognito in a Chicago White Sox hat and black ensemble at the international airport on Thursday morning (Apr. 12), reportedly surrounded by four security guards.
Not much is known about the Suits alum’s surprising cross-continent trip so close to her big day on May 19. Left to speculation, royal watchers suggest that she’s headed for her bachelorette party, though others believe it may have already happened in London. Another possibility is a chic visit to some old college pals from Northwestern University, where she studied international relations and theatre – a degree that led her to some big spots in Hollywood before meeting the love of her life.
But the most likely scenario is a quest to finalize her UK visa, as the 36-year-old was spotted at the VFS Global UK Visa Application Centre the same day she arrived on American soil. Of course, the former actress is eager to become a British citizen, and just last year Harry’s communications secretary, Jason Knauf, explained that “She intends to become a UK citizen and will go through the process of that, which some of you may know takes a number of years. She will retain her US citizenship through that process.”
The countdown is on for the day she walks down the aisle of St George’s Chapel, in front of 1,200 members of the public and millions all over the world tuning in live for the biggest event of the year. But the excitement doesn’t end with the royal wedding! Fans of the monarchy are gearing up for the dynamic duo’s first-ever royal tour, for which Canada is a top choice. “Everything I’m hearing is [Prince Harry and Meghan] will visit Canada soon after the royal wedding,” royal biographer Katie Nicholl revealed to ET Canada .
