Duchess Kate was simply glowing as she and Prince William took to the Lindo Wing steps for their newborn royal baby's world debut on Monday (April 23). And while the special day is significant for many reasons, Kate's fashion choice was of particular notice. Her bright red Jenny Packham dress called to mind another royal who'd been in this very spot years ago – Princess Diana.
The touching scene prompted royal watchers to reminisce on an event that occurred 34 years ago, when Diana and Prince Charles debuted a newborn Prince Harry on the same steps. Clutching her second son, Diana wore a bright red dress with a white collar, looking nearly identical to Kate's look, which she debuted just seven hours after she gave birth to her little prince.
But this isn't the first time that Kate has paid sartorial tribute to her late mother-in-law. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a blue polka dot frock after the birth of her first child, Prince George, which was a very similar look to that of Diana's when she introduced her own first child, Prince William, outside St Mary's Hospital.
Earlier that afternoon, the 4-year-old prince and Princess Charlotte, 2, were two of the first to greet the new addition to their family. Though George seemed a little camera shy, Charlotte happily waved multiple times to the crowd before entering the hospital.
