Prince Louis: Famous people who share the royal baby's name

It has been an exciting week for Prince William and Duchess Kate, who officially welcomed their third royal baby on Monday, April 23. Now, Prince George and Princess Charlotte's adorable little brother has a name - Prince Louis of Cambridge (pronounced Lew-ee)!
No detail goes missed by the Royal Family when it comes to naming their children. Their baby was likely named after his great-grandfather’s great-uncle, Earl Mountbatten, and it's also one of William and George's middle names.
Here are some other famous faces – both modern and historic – who share the name Louis...

Louis Riel
A Commonwealth figure, Louis Riel was the founder of the province of Manitoba as well as a Canadian politician and leader of the Métis people of the Canadian Prairies. Though historians are torn over whether the 19th century figure was a rebel or a hero protecting his people, this Louis is very close to the hearts of many Canadians.

Louis Mountbatten
It's likely that the third royal baby was actually named after this famous royal, Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg, who had a decades-long career in the British Navy before becoming its official head as First Sea Lord in 1912. The family name was changed to Mountbatten during World War I, a name that likely sounds more familiar as Prince Louis is great-uncle to the royal baby's great-grandfather, Prince Philip.
