Meghan Markle isn’t leaving the spotlight anytime soon, but she will be entering quite a different role when she says “I do” to Prince Harry on May 19. Luckily for fans of the former Suits star, they’ll be able to catch her one last time on the small screen – one of her older films from 2013, Random Encounters, is set to be rereleased on May 7 in the UK!
The film, described as a “roller-coaster ride that proves finding your Prince Charming can be a right royal pain,” also stars Michael Rady and Sean Young and is directed by Boris Undorf . Hello! caught up with Boris to chat about the process of working with Meghan, the future royal. “Meghan was suggested to the producers by our casting director. She was an up-and-comer at the time and no one had any idea who she was,” he shared. “When I first saw her reel, she was a lot more beautiful than what I felt was right for the character, but it was clear that she had a good sense of comedic timing and a great energy on-screen, which is what ultimately won me over.”
Not only does Meghan have a great sense of humour and a natural ease about her – as fans saw during some of her silly moments with Harry during their BBC interview in November – but she’s clearly talented. “Aside from all the guys on crew fawning over her, Meghan impressed everyone by being very skilled when it came to the more technical aspects of acting – things like quickly picking up scene blocking, hitting her marks and finding her light with great ease,” he gushed.
And she certainly wasn’t afraid to take risks, Boris shared. Perhaps the romantic comedy was foreshadowing how Meghan and Harry would meet on a blind date! “This is the biggest dating site in LA. Random encounters is what we’re looking for,” a then 31-year-old Meghan says in the trailer to her on-screen pal. Though the actress-turned-royal was set up by one of their mutual friends, it’s still an ironic synopsis considering Meghan hit the royal romance jackpot not so long ago!
While Random Encounters is being re-released in the UK, it is currently available to purchase or stream in the US.
