Meghan Markle is already busy with Duchess duties less than three weeks after saying “I do” to Prince Harry at Windsor Castle. With her first joint engagement with the Queen already on the books, it’s bound to be an exciting June – but first, the former actress will celebrate the monarch’s birthday alongside her husband Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their two adorable kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte , among others. The annual Trooping the Colour ceremony is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year for royal watchers – and Meghan will make her debut this Saturday (June 9). To get a sense of what this may look like, we’re reliving Kate’s first appearance at the historic event.
Back in 2011, two months after tying the knot with Prince William, Kate stepped out for her first-ever appearance at the ceremony. Her post-honeymoon glow on full display, the then-29-year-old stunned in a double-breasted white Alexander McQueen coat and black fascinator, joining her grandmother-in-law and other members of the royal family for the procession and flypast.
The now mother of three rode in a horse-drawn carriage with Prince Andrew, Prince Harry and the Duchess of Cornwall, while her husband participated as an honourary colonel on horseback. It is likely that Duchess Meghan will also arrive in a carriage, but this time with her husband in tow, as he’s not a royal colonel.
The parade, which dates back to the 1700s, commences with a salute from Her Majesty as she admires the pristine 18 th century regimental flag. Then comes a picture-perfect moment for the Royal Family as they watch a traditional flypast by military aircraft from the balcony of Buckingham Palace – where Kate and William shared their first public kiss as husband and wife.
While Meghan seems to carry herself perfectly fine on her own, she’s likely relieved to have found a confidant and friend in her sister-in-law, Kate, who was guided by the Queen when she first entered the royal fold. For Meghan’s first outing as the Duchess of Sussex, she wore a gorgeous blush GOAT dress with a coordinated pink hat, deviating ever-so-slightly from her more laid-back style. Fans are brimming with excitement to see what look she opts for on this momentous occasion!
