His baby sister Princess Adrienne had her day in the spotlight at her christening last Friday, but today (June 15) is all about celebrating Prince Nicolas as he turns three. Following Swedish royal tradition, his parents Princess Madeleine and Chris O'Neill released a precious new photo of the little prince to mark the milestone. Looking as perfect as a doll with his rosy cheeks, blonde hair and striking blue eyes, the couple's middle child wears a short-sleeved double-breasted white shirt with a Peter Pan collar.
The snap is believed to have been taken on the day of Adrienne's christening, June 8, as Nicolas appears to be wearing the same top. Though not visible in the portrait, the three-year-old looked tidy and adorable at the ceremony pairing his white shirt with a pair of beige shorts and white oxfords. It was taken by photographer Erika Gerdemark, who is behind most of the Swedish royal family's official photos.
Proud mom Princess Madeleine shared the photo on her Instagram with the loving caption: "Our sweet Nicolas turns 3 today!" " Her fans were quick to share their well wishes for her little one. "Woooow!! Such a beautiful little boy!" said one, while another commented: "Resembles his Dad! I hope he has a super great day!" "A very happy and blessed birthday to this sweet boy," said a third of her 127,000 followers.
While the family is generally based in London, where the 36-year-old resides with her businessman husband, 43, they'll be celebrating their son's birthday back home. Madeleine and Chris spend their summers in Stockholm - having kicked off this season's stay with Sweden's National Day on June 6. In addition to little Adrienne, Nicolas has big sister Princess Leonore, 4, to play with on his big day.
His Royal Highness Prince Nicolas Paul Gustaf of Sweden was born just two days after his uncle Prince Carl Philip married Princess Sofia in 2015 and is ninth in line to the Swedish throne. His British-American dad has previously admitted that his daughter Leonore can be a handful, while his son is a little sweetie. "They are two different individuals," Chris told Expressen. "Nicolas is a soft little guy. Leonore is dominant and a determined little girl." Madeleine has also previously told the Swedish news outlet: "Nicolas has always loved books! So when you cannot find him, he's sitting with a little book… It's very fun, so he will probably be a bookworm!"
