A month after Meghan Markle said “I do” to Prince Harry, royal watchers are already anxiously awaiting news of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first royal baby, who will join cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. According to her father, Thomas Markle– who gave a candid interview on Good Morning Britainon Monday (June 18) – it will be in the cards sooner rather than later.
The 73-year-old, who was unable to make his daughter’s royal wedding on May 19 due to health complications, told the show that Meghan “has wanted children for a long time.” The 36-year-old has shown her gift for connecting with kids during various walkabouts and official engagements ever since she and Harry became official at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto. “When she met Harry, she spoke about how much she loved him and so there has to be a child making somewhere soon. I don’t think there is a stork in the air yet, but I think it will happen sooner or later,” Thomas shared.
Though the Suitsalum’s father couldn’t be there to walk her down the aisle – a task partly taken on by her father-in-law, Prince Charles– it’s no secret that he’s as proud as any dad would be - though not all fathers find out that their daughter is dating a prince! “This is my daughter and she’s certainly a prize for him, as well,” Thomas told the show. “He’s great; an interesting guy, a prince, but my daughter’s been a princess since the day she was born.”
Meghan officially confirmed in a statement released by Kensington Palacethat Thomas wouldn’t be attending their wedding at Windsor Castle after suffering from health issues, which TMZreported was a heart attackdays prior to the wedding. “It was a very emotional moment for me, like I said, I cried about it. I wanted to walk my daughter down the aisle. I wanted that moment,” Thomas said emotionally. “But I’m thankful for everything the way it went. I was very proud. I was very upset that it wasn’t me but the whole world was watching my daughter. I was very happy about that.”
