Prince Louis’ godparents have been revealed – find out who made the cut

By Meaghan Wray

It’s always an exciting day when royal babies are christened, not only for the sweet family moments but also the highly anticipated announcement of the baby’s godparents! Prince Louis’ parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have officially chosen six close friends and family members to take on the responsibility: Mr. Nicholas van Cutsem, Mr. Guy Pelly, Mr. Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, The Lady Laura Meade, Mrs. Robert Carter and Miss Lucy Middleton.

The little prince’s christening ceremony, conducted by Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, will take place at 11 am (EST) at the Chapel Royal at St. James’s palace in London and will mark the milestone first appearance of the Cambridges as a family of five. Along with members of the Royal Family – except for the Queen and Prince Philip – the Cambridge children’s nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, will also likely be there to help out.

Get to know Prince Louis’ new godparents below!

Guy Pelly

As one of Prince William and Prince Harry’s closest friends, Guy isn’t a surprising choice. The trio go way back – the royal brothers were ushers at his wedding to Elizabeth Wilson four years ago. The nightclub owner used to enjoy party nights out with his royal pals, often being spotted at hotspots Guy opened, like London’s Mahiki, Whisky Mist and Tonteria. His mother, Lady Carolyn Herbert, was close friends with the late Princess Diana.

Nicholas van Cutsem

Another no-brainer is Nicholas, as he’s been friends with the family for a very long time – his daughter, Florence, was even a bridesmaid at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May! His niece Grace walked the aisle as a bridesmaid at William and Kate’s wedding in 2011. Both royal brothers are godparents to the international business developer’s children.

Laura Meade

Laura is another who has been friends of the family for quite some time. She is the wife of William’s friend James Meade, who delivered a best man’s speech at the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding reception. Prince William returned the favour for his pal on his big day in 2013.

Harry Aubrey-Fletcher

William was an usher when Harry married Louise Stourton in West Yorkshire, the first wedding that the Duke and Duchess attended after officially announcing their engagement. Harry is the son of Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, the 8th Baronet and Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire and the Queen’s official representative in the county.

Mrs. Roberts Carter

Born Hannah Gillingham, she is a close friend of Duchess Kate, having attended Marlborough College together. Her husband, Robert Carter, is from a family of wealthy landowners in Norfolk.

Miss Lucy Middleton

Lucy, who works as a solicitor, is the Duchess’s cousin on her father’s side.
