While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex only just said “I do” two months ago, fans of the Royal Family are already eager for the announcement of their first royal baby. And though Meghan Markle and Prince Harry clearly have a knack with children, the prince revealed during their Ireland tour that they may not be planning on having a big family!
The two enjoyed a fun walkabout in Dublin during their first overseas tour in the Emerald Isle, taking time to shake hands and chat with their admirers. One such fan, 43-year-old Elaine Adam-Stewart, was bold enough to ask Harry the million-dollar question: “My husband also has red hair and he gave me five children! When are you and Meghan going to get going?” Showing off his quick wit and laid-back sense of humour, Elaine told People: “He laughed and said, ‘Five children? Too many!’”
Though they aren’t looking to have a brood quite that large, the duo certainly want a family of their own. “You know, one step at a time. Hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future,” the 34-year-old prince told the BBC in their engagement interview. Earlier that day, the newlyweds showed off their ease with kids, sharing a sweet moment with a little boy while touring Croke Park. Three-year-old Walter Cullen reached out to touch Meghan, taking her by surprise! But given how comfortable the royal couple is with children, they all had a laugh about it, with Harry pretending to scold the adorable tot.
It’s also easy to see that the Sussexes will always have dogs nearby! Meghan and Harry both have a soft spot for their canine companions, as they showed during day two of their tour while meeting with Irish President Michael Hoggins, and his wife, Sabina Coyne . The political couple have two big, beautiful Bernese Mountain Dogs at home, with which Meghan and Harry took some time to pet and cuddle during their visit to the presidential residence, Aras an Uchatarain.
