Meghan Markle and dad Thomas used to have the sweetest Hollywood tradition

By Jessica Pollack

It's been featured in Ocean's Eleven and visited by everyone from Charlie Chaplin to Johnny Depp, but Hollywood icon Musso & Frank Grill was also a special place for Meghan Markle and her dad, Thomas Markle. Before she was a small-screen star and long before marrying into the Royal Family, the duo would enjoy a regular daddy-daughter lunch date at the steakhouse, which Prince Harry's wife once revealed on her now-shuttered Instagram.

One of many recommendations the former Suits star loved sharing with fans, especially when delicious food was involved, Meghan revealed the tradition alongside a black-and-white photo of the beloved establishment. "I used to have lunch with my dad here after every tap & ballet class. Happy. Thank you. More please. #mussos #hollywood."

Musso & Frank Grill was a go-to for Meghan and her dad

With Thomas's Hollywood career as an award-winning lighting director on series like General Hospital, it's no surprise that he took his little girl to an industry hangout. Until he and Doria Ragland divorced, the family lived in beautiful Woodland Hills, a star-studded neighbourhood of Los Angeles.

"I grew up on the set of a TV show called Married with Children, where my dad was the lighting director," Meghan told Best Health. "Because of the content of the show, my dad would have me help in craft services, which is where they make all the food and nibbles – that’s where I started to learn about garnishing and plating."

The royal often shared food photos on her now-defunct Instagram

We'd bet their weekly Musso & Frank tradition was also just the ticket to cementing Meghan's love of food. "I love to cook," she told Marie Clare in 2013. "My character [Rachel Zane on Suits] is a foodie because they know that I'm a foodie. I'm always on the quest to find amazing new restaurants and new recipes."

A big part of the Duchess of Sussex's former blog, The Tig, was sharing great recipes and must-try restaurants based on the actress's travels and experiments in the kitchen. And this love of great eats was ultimately involved in one of the most important moments of her life: when her prince proposed in 2017 as the two were enjoying a cozy night in roasting a chicken.
