Did you know that Celine Dion is related to a member of the Royal Family?

By Meaghan Wray

Celine Dion has long been considered Canadian royalty, but it turns out she’s related to actual royalty, too! The Quebec native and fellow musical superstar Madonna are both believed to be distant cousins of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, descending from an esteemed 17th century French-Canadian couple. The British Royal Family never ceases to amaze!

The duo that could link the powerhouse vocalists to royalty are French-Canadians Madeleine Ernard and her carpenter husband Zacharie Cloutier, who died in 1708. Zacharie was born in France but immigrated to Quebec and settled in Beauport as part of a small 100-person colony. The family was first researched more than a decade ago by Boston’s New England Historic Genealogical Society, according to the Daily Mail.

Prince Charles' wife Camilla might just have a gene pool filled with musical royalty

Years ago, Madonna became fascinated with her family tree and worked with genealogist William Addams Reitweisner, says the Irish Examiner. "Camilla and Madonna are both descended from Zacharie Cloutier, who lived from 1617 to 1708, and Camilla and Celine descend from Jean Guyon, who lived from 1619 to 1694," William explained. "Both Jean and Zacharie died in Chateau-Richer, Quebec. Because of their unusual French-Canadian ancestry, they are all blood relations."

As if having ties to the wife of one future king wasn’t enough, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer’s children may be linked to the third-in-line to the throne as well. A British genealogy website claimed back in 2013 that the singer’s sons, René-Charles, Eddy and Nelson, are distant cousins of five-year-old Prince George, Global News reported. The information was first revealed just before the little prince was born on July 22 of that year, but there’s an emphasis on the distant – according to findmypast.co.uk, they’re George’s 26th cousins thrice removed.

Ancestry aside, Celine is currently reigning Down Under as part of her blowout Asia and South Pacific tour. The 50-year-old star has one last gig in New Zealand on Aug. 14 after touring around Australia for the first time in 10 years and touching down in Tokyo, Macao, Singapore, Jakarta, Taipei and more. It’s been a whirlwind adventure across the pond, full of incredible performances and some of the singer’s most regal costumes yet.
