There’s something to be said for having friends in high places, and where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are concerned this means sky high! Since saying “I do” in May, the couple has been on a whirlwind of engagements, so a vacation was just the ticket – and their Hollywood pals George and Amal Clooney were the perfect hosts. So perfect, in fact, that the A-list couple wanted to give their royal guests the most dolce experience possible, so, naturally, the actor reportedly flew them out himself on a private plane!
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined the glamorous duo – who became parents to twins Alexander and Ella last year – at their elaborate villa in the picturesque town of Lake Como. According to ABC News, their Italian home boasts 25 rooms, a swimming pool, tennis courts, a screening room, gym and even their own personal pizza room. Sitting on the shore Laglio, we can’t really imagine a better way to toast the end of summer.
Royal source Omid Scobie revealed that George made sure to personally get the couple over safe and sound, and out of the public eye: “Clooney actually [flew] them over to Como from London on his private jet and then an unmarked motorcade transported them from the airfield to the home with, of course, their protection officers in tow.” But once they arrived undetected, that’s when the festivities began.
Omid elaborated that the prince and industry producer have quite a bit in common, including their hobbies. “George and Harry have a shared passion for motorcycles and checked out George’s collection and they also played basketball together,” he shared. Meanwhile, the human rights lawyer and the duchess paired up to soak up some sun with two special little guests. “Amal and Meghan spent much of their days lounging by the pool together and, of course, playing with the twins,” he said.
A visit with one of Hollywood’s hottest ‘it’ couples wouldn’t be complete without some luxurious banquets and fine dining! The 57-year-old businessman made sure to play host, reportedly catering a dinner party from their favoured restaurant, II Gatto Nero. “Of course, in the evening, George is the host with the most, and he threw on several banquets catered for by his favourite chef at a local restaurant.”
The Italian getaway comes a few months after the parents of two attended Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding. It wasn’t too surprising to see them there, as the Suits alum and her friend were first linked together by a shared hair stylist and mutual friend on Meghan’s move to London. And while stories that George danced with Meghan and Kate at the reception and hopped the bar to pour shots of Casamigos tequila for guests, the charismatic star denied the colourful tales while accepting AFI’s Lifetime Achievement Award in June.
