And during the Duchess of Sussex’s first interview as a member of the Royal Family, she revealed one of the thoughtful things she did with her new husband and his family in mind on their May 19 th wedding day at St. George’s Chapel – showing her dedication to the Royal Family and the Commonwealth.
In a clip from HBO’s highly anticipated new documentary Queen of the World, Meghan Markleis tearfully reunited with her incredible wedding ensemble in an emotional moment for the duchess and viewers alike. As she’s delicately touching the veil, she revealed the detail that she kept as a surprise Harry and his family. Accompanying her gorgeous Givenchy by Claire Waight Keller gown was a beautiful veil, intricately embroidered with wildflowers representing all of the 53 Commonwealth countries – a gesture that showed her dedication to the Queen’s work.
“It was important for me, especially as a part of the Royal Family, to have all 53 of the Commonwealth countries incorporated. And I knew that it would be a fun surprise as well for my now husband, who didn’t know,” she explained in the clip. “He was really over the moon to find out that I would make this choice for our day together, and I think the other members of the family had a similar reaction and appreciation for the fact that we understand how important this is for us, and the role that we play, and the work that we’re going to do in the Commonwealth countries.”
The documentary – which is set to air before Meghan and Harry jet off on their official overseas tour to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga – also features exclusive interviews with other members of the Royal Family, like the Queen and Princess Anne. One scene shows Her Majesty recording her Christmas message, despite birds outside interrupting her first go, as well the engagement that saw the Duchess of Cambridge and the Countess of Wessex collaborate during London Fashion Week, which Princess Beatrice attended.
