Awkward moments happen, even for members of the Royal Family! While backstage during the 2014 WE Day assembly, Prince Harry had the honour of meeting MalalaYousafzai, a young activist who fights for educational rights for young girls – but we’re willing to bet he didn’t see what was coming when they posed for a photo together. Craig Kielburger, a co-founder of the event, opened up to HELLO! about the particularly awkward encounter.
“I had the honour to introduce Prince Harry to Malala, the young girl who of course stood up against the Taliban We were both backstage at WE Day London. Malala, Your Highness, so they met,” Craig recalled. “Prince Harry put his arm around Malala for a photo and very loudly in the corner Malala’s mother in Urdu shouts ‘No, no no,’ which translated to ‘Not unless you marry her can you touch her.’ The prince was so red in his face at that moment and he was clasping his hands in the front. Malala was so embarrassed!”
Every time the 34-year-old steps out, his charisma and confidence are plain to see, so it must take a lot for him get choked up and nervous. “They posed like two teenagers would, no hands touching in a line up getting ready to go to a prom,” Craig continued. “Every young woman’s dream, and I don’t think the prince had ever been told that he can’t put his arm around someone.”
But these kinds of moments are few and far between. For the most part, Prince Harry never misses a beat when out and about greeting celebrities, public figures and, of course, his admirers. And we’ll get to see his charm in full force as he and wife Meghan Markle embark on their first overseas tour starting Oct. 16 . But first, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to visit their namesake county of Sussex, where they’ll visit historic buildings and sites, and help officially open the University of Chichester’s Engineering and Digital Technology Park, as well as visit a charity centre that supports survivors of sexual violence.
