Before Meghan Markle deactivated her social media, she was very well known for her love of food! So, it’s not surprise that she and Prince Harry gravitated towards Michelin-star chef Clare Smyth to cater their luxurious post-wedding reception – and for Clare, it was the “surreal” chance of a lifetime. The talented chef stopped to chat with HELLO! just before being awarded at the Michelin Star awards on Monday night (Oct. 1).
While speaking with HELLO! at the Nespresso kitchen, Clare gushed about the experience: “It was really fantastic being able to work with [Prince Harry and Meghan]. The fairy-tale story was my lasting memory from the wedding. Everyone globally saw it and it couldn’t have been more perfect. It was completely surreal, everything was surreal. It’s something that Britain does very well. And they were so happy!”
Unsurprisingly, the dynamic duo was fully involved in the creation of their perfect meal! “They were involved in the menu. It was very important to them. Obviously, a wedding is very important to you and personal, it’s a one in a lifetime thing so it was nice to be a part of it,” Clare explained – and she didn’t hold back from singing the praises of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex . “The work that they do, especially the young royals, is so great, and I think they are just brilliant. I think they really bring people together and I am particularly a great fan of Meghan and Harry. I think Meghan is fantastic for the UK.”
The chef, who used to work for Gordon Ramsay, expressed her dream of being awarded a star that evening. “I am hoping to win a star and we will see what happens. They don’t give us any clues, they used to but not anymore,” she shared. “Michelin very much drives the standard of what we do continuously and it’s terrific for our industry. It’s certainly something I have always followed since I became a chef.”
