The Duke and Duchess of Sussex took their catchy surname to heart when they visited their namesake county on Wednesday (Oct. 3). And while the couple have surely done their homework on the historic region of South East England, they could always use a little help from their tiny fans. During their walkabout, they received an extra special gift from a gaggle of sweet schoolchildren who were patiently waiting their turn chat with the royal couple.
A small group of youngsters from Westbourne House School handed the duke and duchess an adorable handmade A to Z of Sussex guidebook, the perfect gift for their first visit to the county! "We want to tell them all about Sussex because it is the best county in the world," said 10-year-old Thomas Symington. When they handed the gift to Meghan, she said, "Oh my goodness, thank you. That's so cool."
Of learning that the kids were missing double latin and a latin test, Prince Harry high-fived them and said, "The fact that you got off double Latin because we are here. I think that's fantastic," before nervously adding, "Although education is important!" Their teacher, Mrs. Sleep, was just as excited, joking “I’m not letting go,” as she shook the prince’s hand. He played along, joking, “Um, please let go.”
This was just one of many groups of precious children in red school uniformas, waving the British flag and screaming to meet their royal idols. In true Meghan and Harry fashion, they took time to greet them all, bending down to chat with them and share a laugh or two. The couple, who said “I do” on May 19 at St. George’s Chapel, were on their way to visit Eden House to see the city’s rare copy of America’s Declaration of Independence. On their whirlwind visit to East Sussex, they also stopped by Bognor Regis to lend a hand opening Chichester University’s Technology Park.
Naturally, more was on display this day than just Meghan and Harry’s infectious charisma with their fans. The former actress showed off her fashion savvy once more in a green leather Hugo Boss skirt, loose & Other Stories blouse, beige Stuart Weitzman pumps and a boyfriend-style cream Armani coat. She accessorized with an adorable ball-shaped handbag by Gabriela Hearst and finished the look off with a Missoma signet ring and her classic soft updo with face-framing tendrils – a little more polished than her former messy bun look.
The very special day is certainly one for the books – and they have a few more of those coming up shortly! The 37-year-old and her royal husband will be heading out on their first-ever official Commonwealth tour starting Oct. 16 , which will take them to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and the Kingdom of Tonga. The trip promises Kodak moments galore with fans Down Under and a beautiful reminder of Harry’s late mom Princess Diana, whose first tour with Prince Charleswas also in Australia and New Zealand.
