When Jack Brooksbank arrived at his royal wedding on Friday (Oct. 12) ahead of wife-to-be Princess Eugenie, he had his glasses off. The groom waved to the crowds gathered outside St. George's Chapel, looking nervous and excited as he made his way inside with his brother, Thomas Brooksbank. But as the blushing bride marched down the aisle, Jack's glasses were back on so that he could take in every detail of his longtime love in her gown. Becoming teary eyed, he whispered the sweetest things to Eugenie when she finally reached the altar.
"You look perfect," he said to his betrothed, who appeared to say, "Thank you very much" in return. A lip reader who spoke to the Daily Mail's Rebecca English also says that as the 28-year-old approached, Jack was overcome by emotion, saying, "Oh… my heart... Oh, break my heart!"
Part of the ceremony also paid tribute to the loveable groom, as Princess Beatrice read a passage from The Great Gatsby that reminded Eugenie of her husband-to-be. "He smiled understandingly-much more than understandingly," it reads. "It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced–or seemed to face–the whole eternal world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey."
In a televised interview the day before their nuptials, the couple gushed about one another and said that the first time they met it was definitely love at first sight. "You came over and shook my hand, and I was all butterflies and nervous,” Eugenie told ITV. “I think I ran to my mom that night and was like, 'I just met this guy Jack!' I remember being like, 'I really, really like this guy and I really want him to like me too.' And then you gave me this huge windscreen-wiper wave and I was like, 'Right, he likes me.'"
Jack treated his bride to a stunning wedding gift, which she wore on their big day - gorgeous drop earrings each featuring an oval emerald dangling from a chain of seven diamonds, perhaps a tribute to how many years the couple has been together. The baubles perfectly matched the bride's tiara, the emerald and diamond Greville Emerald Kokoshnik on loan from her grandmother, the Queen.
