Baby Sussex is coming! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed their exciting pregnancy news on Monday (Oct. 15), when Kensington Palace released a statement announcing that the two are expecting their first child together come Spring 2019. The statement reads: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019. Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."
Though an exact due date has not been revealed, it's thought that the duchess is around 12 weeks pregnant. The proud parents-to-be are thought to have shared their exciting news with the Royal Family at Princess Eugenie's wedding on Friday (Oct. 12). The Queen, Prince Harry's father, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridgeare reportedly "delighted for the couple." And, of course, Meghan's mom, Doria Ragland, is similarly overjoyed by the news. A Palace spokesperson said: "Ms. Ragland is very happy about this lovely news and looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild."
The pair, who said "I do" on May 19, kicked off their first overseas tour with quite the bang! The tour – which will see them stop in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and the Kingdom of Tonga – is expected to continue on as planned, despite the surprising news. Since Fiji and Tonga have moderate Zika risk, HELLO! royal correspondent Emily Nash says it's business as usual. "For those asking, there is no change to the tour programme and the couple have taken medical advice about the Zika risk in the Pacific Islands."
This is the news that royal fans have been waiting for ever since the pair exchanged vows at St. George's Chapel on May 19! Especially as of late, royal watchers have had their suspicions about Meghan's pregnancy – from the way she carries her handbags and clutches to her choice of outfits (remember the blue Jason Wu dress she wore to the 100 Days to Peace concert that sparked rumours?)
Prince Harry and Meghan have always been forthcoming about their desire to start a family – in their first TV interview with the BBC after their engagement, there was talk of family making down the road. And during their joint two-day trip to Ireland, Meghan stopped by to visit the couple who own baby product company Shnuggle: "I'm sure at one point we will need the whole thing. It's very sweet," she said while looking at a Moses basket and baby bath. The couple said the two seemed interested in the products, with Harry particularly checking out the bath.
The last time royal watchers heard talk of babies gave us a few laughs, too! While the two were in Dublin, Harry was asked by fan Elaine Adam-Steward if he wanted to have five children: "My husband also has red hair and he gave me five children. When are you and Meghan going to get going?" In true Harry form, he responded cheekily: "Five children? Too many!"
