The Duke and Duchess of Sussex kicked off their royal tour Down Under with a very major announcement: their first pregnancy! The news was met with excitement around the world and back home, too, where their royal relatives shared their joy for the couple. Prince William and Kate are "delighted" for the parents-to-be, Kensington Palace revealed, as are his father Prince Charles and Camilla and his grandparents, the Queen and Prince Philip.
Prince Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, made their pregnancy public less than a day after arriving in Sydney to kick off their 16-day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and the Kingdom of Tonga. "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019," read a statement from the palace. "Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."
The former actress is believed to be around 12 weeks pregnant, and her mom Doria Ragland is also thrilled to become a grandmother for the first time. A spokesman for Kensington Palace said: "Ms Ragland is very happy about this lovely news and looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild." While the Sussexes told the Royal Family their exciting news on Friday at Princess Eugenie's wedding, they're likely to have told Doria in person back when she visited London to support Meghan at her charity cookbook launch.
The newlyweds have previously hinted their desire to have children in the near future. During a visit with Harry in Belfast, the former actress was seen looking at some infant items by Shnuggle. Meghan remarked: "I am sure at one point we will need the whole thing. It's very sweet." And the duchess has had plenty of opportunities to show her maternal side, from walkabouts to sweet moments with little fans - like Walter Cullen, the cheeky three-year-old who touched the 37-year-old's hair while she and Harry were on a two-day visit to Dublin. Most recently, Prince Harry revealed that five children would be too many for him while chatting with a fan in Dublin.
