Ever since Prince Harryand Meghan Marklesaid “I do” during their lavish May nuptials at Windsor Castle, royal watchers have been eagerly awaiting a baby announcement – and on Monday (Oct. 15), they finally got it! "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019," read a statement from Kensington Palace. But leading up to the first day of their overseas tour Down Underwere months of speculation and also clues pointing to their pregnancy. From the clothing Meghan has chosen to her glowing skin to their quick entrance at Princess Eugenie’s wedding, all signs pointed to a royal bun in the oven.
It’s been a busy week for the couple, who hopped a plane to Australia immediately following their attendance at the family’s second royal wedding of the year. The two have embarked on their first-ever overseas trip together – and royal watchers couldn’t help but notice how amazing Meghan looked after a grueling 22-hour flight, which included a stop in Singapore! An early pregnancy glow in full force? Fresh-faced and beaming, the duchess walked to a waiting car with her husband as she held a couple of strategically placed binders in front of her stomach.
At the princess’s wedding on Friday (Oct. 12), the Suitsalum veered from her typically eye-catching ensembles and donned a subdued and loose-fitting navy-blue Givenchycoatdress. Eyebrows were raised when realized it was unbuttoned from her midsection down, which perfectly hid and allowed room for a growing baby bump. While the arrivals are the first moment of excitement before any royal wedding, the Duke and Duchess of Sussexkept their entrance to St. George’s Chapel brief, quiet and quick – a hint that they may have had news to hide.
That day, she and Harry also took a step back to stand behind other members of the Royal Family, too, so as not to draw too much attention to themselves. It’s believed that the wedding is when they chose to tell their family the exciting news, and Meghan could very well have been getting advice from Princess Anne during her animated chat with the mother of two in the pews.
Every royal union is typically followed by excitement for a baby, so it comes as no surprise that suspicion was raised when the former actress wore a particularly loose dress at an engagement last month. Stepping out for the 100 Days to Peace concert, the duchess shined bright in a ruffled Jason Wu gown, which gathered around her midsection as she walked. And when Meghan and her 34-year-old husband attended their friend Charlie van Straubenzee’s weddingback in Aug., the Los Angeles native wore a loose, pleated skirt and made sure to stand with her hand bag over her stomach. Though at the time Meghan was likely only within her first month of pregnancy, one can never be too careful amid the watchful eyes of royal photographers and fans alike!
