Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to announce their pregnancy at a very special time - as they were about to kick off their first official tour as a family! The couple shared the news shortly after arriving in Australia in a statement from Kensington Palace, revealing that they're due in spring 2019 and thanking people around the world for their support. The following day the duke gave a sweet speech in which he officially mentioned their bundle of joy for the first time, saying they "couldn't think of a better place to announce." Meghan, meanwhile, bonded with the tiniest fan!

As the couple's busy first day wound down, they attended a reception back at Admiralty House, hosted by Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and with local guests from various sectors like charity, sports, the arts and business. The 34-year-old gave his first speech of the tour, starting off with his excitement to be there. "It’s great to be back in Australia, and especially even more so, this is my wife’s first trip here, so I’m very excited to show her this incredible country of yours," he said.

In typical Harry style, he added a joke before bashfully mentioning the little one on everyone's minds. "We’re both absolutely delighted to be here and to see you serving beer and tea at an afternoon reception in true Aussie style," he teased, then threw Meghan a smile and said, "We also, genuinely, couldn’t think of a better place to announce, uh, the upcoming baby, be it a boy or girl, so thank you very much." The crowd giggled excitedly and Meghan beamed in the audience.

The 37-year-old mom-to-be later made a beeline to meet a sleepy little fan, the nine-week-old daughter of Australian singer Missy Higgins. While little Luna dozed in her mother's arms, the duchess said that she's "excited to join the club" and picked up some sound advice. "Cherish each moment because it goes by so fast. It really does," Missy said. The new mom shared some of her interaction with the Sussexes on Instagram, adding that Prince Harry later came up to the women and squeezed Luna's legs, saying, "Who's this little cutie?"

Clearly delighted to be embarking on this new adventure, Harry and Meghan were smiling from ear to ear throughout the first day of their tour, talking baby with well-wishers outside the Sydney Opera House and receiving their very first pint-sized gift from the Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove, and his wife Lady Lynne Cosgrove. The couple gifted the royals a stuffed kangaroo and tiny UGG boots, to which Meghan exclaimed, "It's our first baby gift!" They're sure to have plenty more sweet moments with little fans and will hopefully keep giving royal-watchers little glimpses of their experience so far as they continue their 16-day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and the Kingdom of Tonga.
