Prince Harry and Meghan met children while New Zealand was rocked by an earthquake

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were unaware of the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that sent tremors through New Zealand’s North Island on Tuesday (Oct. 30). The couple was out and about visiting with local children in Auckland, one of the few areas that narrowly missed being affected by the natural disaster, a common occurrence in the beautiful country.

Luckily, no injuries or deaths have been reported, and the parents-to-be didn’t have to cancel their activity, which would have left some little ones mighty disappointed! The couple, who were enjoying the second-last day of their first overseas royal tour together, made sure to wear their hearts on their sleeves that morning, giving back to a cause they’re passionate about: family welfare. They joined New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in the country’s largest city to visit Pillars, a charity that provides morning programs to support children of imprisoned parents. The duo are already familiar with the program as the government of New Zealand gifted US$5,000 to Pillars as a wedding gift to Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan – the perfect gift for the two humanitarians!

The initiative is the only one of its kind in New Zealand, and the duke and duchess were on hand to help them ring in 30 years of aiding the local community! Of course, the commemorative event wasn’t without some of the sweetest Kodak moments – Harry and Meghan showed off their parental instincts as they greeted and shook hands with children benefiting from the program. One such little girl, dressed adorably in a white princess dress, welcomed Meghan with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers as the royal arrived. This tour has certainly been one for the books, especially with all the practice the Sussexes have gotten as they prepare to welcome their “little bump” in the spring.

The 37-year-old was the picture of elegance, trading in the wellies and raincoat she wore earlier in the day for a beige Brandon Maxwell dress, Stuart Weitzman pumps and a Burberry Bishop trench coat. This outfit is one that we’ve seen Meghan wear on a few occasions during the tour – a formfitting dress with a trench coat has definitely become one of her go-to ensembles! Her husband looked dapper by her side, too, donning a very becoming navy suit for the occasion.
