The Duchess of Cambridge wore her heart on her blazer during a surprise visit to University College London on Wednesday (Nov. 21) alongside her private secretary Catherine Quinn. Kate paid a visit to the campus for a chat with Professor Eamon McCrory – the co-director of the Developmental Risk and Resilience Unit in the Psychology & Language Science department – and looked sharp as ever in a coordinating ensemble.

Duchess Kate channeled her inner elegant academic in a recycled Paule Ka skirt suit and a black turtleneck underneath. The monochrome maroon look, which was almost identical in hue to Duchess Meghan’s outfit on the same day, suited her perfectly for a visit to a college.

Mother-of-three Kate switched up her hairstyle from her classic bouncy waves, tying it back in a ponytail, kept high with a sweet velvet ribbon tied in a bow. She anchored the look with a pair of black block-heeled Tod's suede pumps and wore Asprey London's Oak Leaf earrings. The 36-year-old topped it all off with her usual pretty beauty look - taupe shadow and black lashes with rosy cheeks and a pink lip.

The University of St. Andrews graduate was on site to understand further how young people develop socially and emotionally, a specialty of the professor. The discussion ties perfectly into the duchess’s passion for education and empowerment, and her drive to understand children and create initiatives with her patronages to best support the young people of England.

During her visit, Kate was shown the unit’s MRI Scanning Facility, and she watched a demonstration of how the scanner is used to study the brain, seeing the resulting images that allow scientists to spot differences in brain structure and function. The researchers are trying to decipher the effects of nature and nurture on the social and emotional development of young brains. Kate is particularly interested in the resilience of children following early adversity.
