Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan announced their baby news before jetting off on their royal tour, fans have been eager to find out what his or her name will be. While Down Under, the two received many name suggestions for Baby Sussex – but now, grandpa Prince Charles has opened up about what he thinks the top two names will be!
During a visit to Australia House on Thursday (Nov. 23) with the Duchess of Cornwall, the future king revealed some details about Harry and Meghan’s royal tour: “Incidentally, ladies and gentlemen, my son Harry tells me that during their recent tour of Australia, he and his wife were offered countless thoughtful suggestions for the naming of their forthcoming baby. Just between us, I suspect that Kylie and Shane may possibly make the shortlist.”
Known for his charm and wonderful sense of humour, Charles couldn’t help but add in a joke, too, poking fun at comedian and guest Barry Humphries, known for his alter egos of Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson: “But ladies and gentlemen, I would not hold your breath for Edna or Les.”
Many names for Baby Sussex will continue to be tossed around until his or her official name is announced in the spring. While on tour in Australia, during a walkabout in Melbourne, the father-to-be revealed one of his favourite monikers to a 28-year-old mother and her baby daughter, Harriet: "As soon as I introduced my daughter to Harry he said, 'that’s a great name.' Maybe they will choose it for their own child which would be fun." Aw!
Of course, the Prince is most likely alluding to the similarity to his own name – and we doubt he was giving any clues as to his own choices. Jessica added: "Meghan was right behind him and was playfully tickling her toes and said how sweet it was that I’d brought her out today."
But if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex heed Prince Charles’ advice, it will be a big break from royal tradition, which almost always sees royal kids take on traditional names. Prince William and Kate’s children – George, Charlotte and Louis – all have classic English names, so Kylie and Shane would definitely change up the baby name game!
