The Duchess of Sussex had one very important meeting yesterday evening (Dec. 3). The mom-to-be secretly stepped out for some private time with former First Lady Michelle Obama, who was in London as part of the book tour for her new memoir, Becoming. HELLO! can confirm Meghan and Michelle met, and they had a lovely time as Meghan has always admired Michelle. Oh, to be a fly on that wall for what must have been the most inspirational conversation ever. Can you say squad goals?
It’s no surprise that the two got along swimmingly. After all, they both hold female empowerment and gender-based activism close to their hearts. And as strong women with incredible platforms themselves, they’re bona fide role models for younger generations of women hoping to make a difference.
A source opened up about their conversation to the Evening Standard, saying: “They spoke at length about the importance of supporting and empowering women across all cultures and communities. They also talked about shared experiences of pregnancy and raising children, plus shared causes including girls’ education.
The former actress was likely to get some hot parenting tips from Michelle, who has two wonderful daughters with the former President of the United States, Barack Obama. Meghan and Prince Harry will welcome Baby Sussex in the spring, making Frogmore Cottage in Windsor their first family home, and both have had some practice doting on their nieces, nephews and children of friends.
A few days before they officially met, the 54-year-old shared some useful advice for Meghan. Chatting with Good Housekeeping magazine, the activist and author said: "Like me, Meghan probably never dreamt that she’d have a life like this, and the pressure you feel – from yourself and from others – can sometimes feel like a lot." She continued: “So, my biggest pieces of advice would be to take some time and don’t be in a hurry to do anything. I spent the first few months in the White House mainly worrying about my daughters, making sure they were off to a good start at school and making new friends before I launched into any more ambitious work."
The Obamas have quite a tight bond with the Royal Family, having made two trips during Barack’s presidency to visit the Queen and Prince Philip at Buckingham Palace. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also hosted the political power couple at a private dinner back in 2016 alongside Meghan’s husband, who also has a warm relationship with Michelle. “The three of them have built up a relationship with the President and First Lady over the years,” the source added. Prince Harry and the former First Lady worked together on the second Invictus Games in Orlando and last year surprised a class of students in Chicago with a visit.

Many royal watchers will remember the positively heartwarming moment that little Prince George got to stay up extra late to greet Michelle and Barack, who showed off their natural charm with little ones. Making matters even sweeter, the prince was decked out in the most adorable sleeping ensemble – blue-and-white pyjamas, a matching bathrobe and a cute pair of slippers. Maybe one day she’ll also get to hang with Baby Sussex!
