Duchess Kate dished on the 'sugar highs' at her Christmas party

By Meaghan Wray

When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are around, everything is a little bit sweeter! And this was certainly true at the festive celebration they hosted on Dec. 4 at Kensington Palace. In the hopes of honouring the family members and kids of military personnel stationed in Cyprus, who sadly won’t be home for the holidays, Prince William and Kate put on a holly jolly bash – and there may have been a few too many sweet treats…

The day after the party, the parents of three traveled to Cyprus to visit the servicemen and women at RAF Akrotiri, an air force base on the beautiful Mediterranean island near Greece. While happily chatting with the women and men serving their country, Kate asked if she’d met any of their kids the other day, adding: “I hope they enjoyed it. It was very kiddie-friendly. I think some of the grandparents felt slightly bombarded.”

The mom of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis continued, explaining that the children who were there “had a lot of sweets by the end of the day. We felt quite responsible. The sugar highs … there were a lot of marshmallows. Did they get back [home] okay?” As always, Kate had her heart of her sleeve, showing genuine care for the families who would sadly be separated this holiday season.

The couple, along with Prince Harry and Meghan, care deeply for the people who give up time with their families to protect their nation. Opening up about these sacrifices, Kate said: “Some of the children really understood what their mums and dads are doing and missed you all. I’m sorry that we couldn’t bring your families with us for Christmas.”

Duchess Kate also revealed that she tried to bring Prince George and Princess Charlotte down to enjoy the fun after their school day, but sadly, the party was all packed up by then. “We took our children down to where the party was but everything was gone. They were so disappointed!” But luckily, not all hope was lost – George made sure to ask dad to take a photo of a helicopter if she saw one today in Cyprus, and we’re sure William obliged his sweet son!
