Even while living oceans apart, Serena Williams and Duchess Meghan always find time for their friendship. Meghan is quickly settling into life as a British royal and a soon-to-be mom, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t need some helpful advice every now and then (even from former First Lady Michelle Obama!). Her BFF Serena had some tips for the mom-to-be, including being a little less nice sometimes!
The tennis pro opened up about a conversation she had with her royal pal recently, recounting their chat to People: “I’m like, ‘How are you?’ and she’s like, ‘No, how are you?’ and I’m like, ‘You’re so sweet but I’m really asking – how are YOU?’” She continued: “I’m like, ‘Meghan, stop being so nice… You’re the pregnant one – aren’t you supposed to have hormones? Why are you so sweet? But that’s always been her.”
It’s really no surprise that the Duchess of Sussex has other people on her mind. Since joining the Royal Family, the 37-year-old has had ample opportunity to show that she puts her all into serving her community – and that includes putting her best friends and family before herself. Serena welcomed her first child, Alexis Olympia, with husband Alexis Ohanian back in September, and even though the Suits alum isn’t a mom yet, she’s still the one dolling out the most guidance, according to the athlete. “[She] still gives me more advice,” she said.
Though the duchess has all the support in the world, nothing can really prepare anyone for being a first-time parent. But the 37-year-old athlete has some words of wisdom for her friend, who will welcome her first child with Prince Harry in the spring: “It will come … I don’t know what’s going to happen, I didn’t know how I’m going to have a baby, and it all came. It’s so crazy, I totally changed, and it literally is like a switch. And so, I say that, ‘It will come.’”
