Lin-Manuel Miranda probably never expected to watch his award-winning play, Hamilton, beside the Duke and Duchess of Sussex! Back in August, Prince Harry hosted the special performance at the Victoria Palace Theatre to raise money for his Invictus Games and the couple had a blast meeting cast members. And while meeting royalty is thrilling for so many reasons, the celebrated playwright told HELLO! that one thing in particular left an impression - how well Meghan knew the words to his songs!
"It was pretty wild. It was pretty surreal to see that the Duchess knows the lyrics a little better than I do! She was sitting next to me and mouthing along," he revealed. After all, it was the mom-to-be's third time seeing the play, and her second with Prince Harry. And it looks like she's inspired Lin-Manuel! "I am playing Hamilton again in Puerto Rico in a few weeks and I really was like, oh man I've got to brush up on my lyrics. So, it was a joy and they're wonderful."
As a former actress, it's no wonder Meghan is good at memorizing lyrics! Prince Harry also showed his prowess for the soundtrack in a speech following the show, when he tried his hand at singing a line by King George III to the crowd's delight. The play tells the story of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton's life in an unprecedented way - using Lin-Manuel's stunning soundtrack laced with hip hop, rap, soul and pop and colour-blind casting. It's no wonder it scooped up the most Tony nominations for a single play ever, not to mention GRAMMY and Olivier awards.
Lin-Manuel is currently promoting Mary Poppins Returns alongside Emily Blunt while the Sussexes prepare for their move to Frogmore Cottage early next year. Surprising fans who thought they'd live in London, they couple is setting up their first family home on the Queen's Windsor estate ahead of welcoming their first child in the spring. Perhaps Lin-Manuel will come for supper!
