Duchess Kate makes pizza and birdhouses with little fans in Islington

When the Duchess of Cambridge takes to the great outdoors to show off her green thumb, it's always a treat for fans! On Tuesday (Jan. 15), the mother of three headed to King Henry's Garden Walk in Islington to learn about the project, which brings local people together to grow food and work with the plant life. Not only did she get to take part in a winter planting workshop and help a gaggle of adorable young fans to make bird feeders, but she also got to show off a skill she's honed with her own little ones: pizza making!
Kate looked her typically elegant self in an outdoorsy ensemble, pairing her olive-green skinny jeans and toggle jacket with a maroon turtleneck sweater and brown hiking boots.

Keeping her look appropriately casual, Kate was still the picture of elegance as she arrived at the garden. The 37-year-old, who celebrated her birthday on Jan. 9, wore a Dubarry Bracken tweed jacket with a high neck, her olive skinny jeans, a maroon turtleneck sweater and hiking boots that some have identified as See by Chloe.

The brunette beauty's locks were particularly bouncy as she made her fun-filled return to royal work, marking her first engagement of 2019. Kate's beauty look was particularly natural as she wore a very nude pink lip, a lighter version of her typical smoky eye and rosy cheeks.

Kate traded her brown leather Penelope Chilvers knee-high boots for a new pair of hiking boots. The brown suede See by Chloe design features leather piping and a chunky sole with a small stacked heel.

Kate was all smiles as she kicked off the new year in Islington, touring a space supported by the local council! She learned all about the community garden from volunteers and saw just how much can grow in a small, urban space.

Kate had a blast chatting with youngsters from local schools as they took part in workshops like pizza making and building bird feeders. The garden has had such a positive effect on the neighbourhood that vandalism and antisocial behaviour has decreased, and it's won accolades that include London in Bloom's Best Community Garden award (in 2008, 2009 and 2011!).

The royal mom had lots of questions for her little fans. "Do you all like learning outside? Do you prefer a classroom in the woodlands or a classroom inside? You can do cool stuff like this. You can learn all the time. And what's your favourite thing to do outside in the garden?" A little boy said he loves finding dirty stuff, to which Kate replied, "What sort of dirty stuff do you find? Do you find worms? And insects? Do you ever find spiders? There's so much to discover isn't there? It's really fun. If you haven't tried it you don't know how cool it is."

"Have you seen any birds?" Kate asked the children from St Jude's and St Paul's schools as they worked on their bird feeders. "Has anyone made these before? I was hearing earlier that you have been making pizza. And pizza outside. That sounds like the coolest thing ever." One of the kiddies asked where Prince George and Princess Charlotte are, to which their proud mom said they're in school. "They would love to come and do this with you. They will be very sad that I've been out here making pizzas with all of you and they haven't been here. They are in school. George is at a school called Thomas's. He's learning about space. Have you all learnt about space?"

The Duchess of Cambridge was game to get her hands dirty as she made pizza with the children, one of whom posed a hilarious question. "Has the Queen ever eaten pizza?" they asked, and Kate had a sweet response. "That's such a good question, I don't know. Maybe next time I see her, shall I ask?"

Kate couldn't help but stop to coo over three-month-old baby Ishaan, who was bundled up with mom Anita and dad Alex. The royal was surely nostalgic over eight-month-old Prince Louis' earlier days.
