No matter where she goes, Duchess Meghan always has her big heart on display. During a charity visit to One25 with Prince Harry in Bristol on Friday (Feb. 1), the expectant royal shared some sweet words of support for sex workers who rely on the assistance of the organization.
While on a tour of the facility with her husband, Duchess Meghan saw meals being prepared for beneficiaries of the organization and asked for a permanent marker. "I saw this project this woman had started somewhere in the States on a school lunch program. On each of the bananas she wrote an affirmation, to make the kids feel really, like, empowered. It was the most incredible idea – this small gesture,” she said before joking, "I am in charge of the banana messaging!"
The 37-year-old went on to write a variety of positive affirmations on the fruits: "You are strong," "You are loved," "You are brave" and "You are special." She then helped pack care packages that would be given to workers that evening. It was plain to see how important One25's cause is to the couple. The Bristol-based organization reaches out to women trapped in or vulnerable to street sex-work, "supporting them to break free and build new lives away from violence, poverty and addiction," their website states.
It was a series of moments that visibly moved some of the workers at One25. One former sex worker, Sam, said: "I can imagine being on the van, and 'Meghan wrote this thing, and what?' I think they might not eat it. I think that banana would be at home until it is rotten. Because I would do the same. It sounds really cheesy, but little things like that when you are out – especially tonight, we can see the weather – just to get that little thing… Meghan took her time out to write that one. It's lush."
She added: "It is amazing that they chose to come here. It is heartwarming, and makes you think that these women are not forgotten and not cared about."
