Intimate details revealed about Duchess Meghan's New York City baby shower

Though Duchess Meghan's outings in New York City last week certainly pleased her fans, most are dying to know what happened behind closed doors. Now, a week later, details are emerging about what happened at her lavish baby shower on Feb. 20. Naturally, it was a regal affair!

Meghan's closest friends – from Serena Williams to Jessica Mulroney and Amal Clooney – were invited to the shower, held at New York's upscale The Mark Hotel. Her makeup artist, Daniel Martin, was also on the roster of invitees. “Snow was falling outside, and it was so cozy – we all sat on couches or on the floor and told stories and caught up,” he revealed to People. “It was like going to a family reunion.”

He went on to say that the event was "exactly what [the duchess] needed" ahead of the birth of her and Prince Harry's first child in the spring. He added that it was a mini reunion for all of the guests, who hadn't seen each other since the royal wedding in 2018. Another attendee told the publication that the shower was all about Meghan and her newborn: “It was all baby talk. She was getting tons of advice."

Harper's Bazaar previously revealed that the shower was co-hosted by the duchess' longtime friends Serena Williams and Genevieve Hillis. About 20 of the 37-year-old's friends "from her teenage years to the present" attended, including Oprah Winfrey's best friend, Gayle King, and Meghan's former Suits co-star, Abigail Spencer.

Outside of baby talk, guests were treated to a lavish flower arranging tutorial by Lewis Miller, and the duchess kindly donated the creations to Repeat Roses, a charity that provides arrangements to hospitals, homeless shelters and hospices. For food, a lavish dessert table was created by The Mark's resident chef, Jean George.

In a photo Daniel shared to social media of the spread, mini cakes could be seen sitting alongside cookies shaped like bibs with the word “baby” written on them. There were also cakes with storks holding swaddled babies, and macaroons stacked on top of each other.

Though there were gifts, none of them were opened in front of attendees. Gayle reportedly told a CBS Good Morning co-host that Meghan "didn't open any of the gifts because she wants to do that when she and Harry are back together." It's doubtful that the pair have had time to open the presents, though, given the busy schedule they've been keeping. Immediately after the shower wrapped, the duchess took a red eye flight home to London, so she could prepare for her and the prince's trip to Morocco.

During their three-day stay in the country, the royal couple were spotted cuddling up to one another and visiting Casablanca, Asni and Rabat. They met with the country's royal family as well as various charity workers and local villagers in each city. They're next scheduled to appear alongside the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on March 5 at a morning reception to mark the 50th anniversary of the investiture of the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace.
