Prince William and Duchess Kate show rare public display of affection at Kensington Palace

By Sarah Walker

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made an adorable and rare public display of affection Wednesday morning (March 6) as they headed toward a helicopter at Kensington Palace that was set to take them to Blackpool. While it’s rare for the couple to cozy up at events, they have been spotted recently touching each other’s arms or caressing each other’s backs. The sweet moment was shared to social media by @teatimewiththecambridges.

Though it may seem like there's some sort of royal protocol preventing them from canoodling in public, People once revealed there's no such rule in place. Rather, because the pair are "working representatives of British Monarchy," they keep things professional while at events.

Myka Meier, a royal etiquette expert told the publication, “There is no actual etiquette or royal protocol that says the couple must refrain from PDA... The likely reasoning is more that while traveling on a tour such as the India trip, technically the couple are working representatives of British Monarchy,” she noted. “The couple are likely to show very little PDA, if any, to remain professional during their designated roles abroad.” This is in contrast to Prince Harry and Meghan who openly cuddle up to one another while at events, most recently at WE Day in London.

Once in Blackpool, Prince William and Katedidn't let the rain deter them from enjoying a day full of planned activities. The pair first stopped by Comedy Carpet for a fun walkabout (with some adorable encounters with kids!) they visited Blackpool Tower for a community meeting and to learn how they're tackling some of the social and mental health problems faced by people in Britain today. A lover of children, Kate also sweetly chatted with the two little girls for a while in between engagements.
